I tested the ‘Angel Reese 1’ sneakers yet again—here is my review

Angel Reese’s first signature sneaker, the ‘Angel Reese 1,’  has been selling out quickly, but popularity doesn’t always tell the full story.

I wanted to give these shoes a fair and honest evaluation, especially for shoppers who prefer to know exactly what they’re getting before spending their money. My first pair, purchased in my usual men’s size 10, had so much extra room in the toe box that they were nearly impossible to play in. Wanting to be certain, I ordered a second pair in a half-size down.

With the new pair in hand, I was hoping the earlier problems were just bad luck. After another five hours of court time—bringing me to about 15 total—I focused on three main areas: fit, comfort, and materials, which are the same categories I focused on in my initial test of the ‘Angel Reese 1’ sneakers.

During Black Friday 2025, several retailers, including Reebok and Finish Line, are offering limited-time discounts, though it’s worth noting that the popular bubblegum pink colorway is mostly sold out online.

How these sneakers fit

While going down half a size solved the original issue of a roomy toe box, a new problem appeared almost immediately. The heel simply didn’t stay secure, no matter how tightly I tied the laces. Even double-knotting didn’t help.

The sneakers include heel pillows, but they didn’t do enough to stop my heel from slipping during simple warm-up runs—let alone quick changes of direction or pull-up shots. Wearing ankle braces added a bit of bulk but did not solve the issue either. In fact, I could still slide my foot out of the shoe with minimal effort, even with the brace on.

For anyone who prioritizes stability and secure footing—especially players who want to avoid unnecessary strain or risk—this fit issue is worth serious consideration. While the length felt better, the overall containment simply wasn’t there for me.

Their comfort level

Where the ‘Angel Reese 1’ shoe does shine is cushioning. Reebok’s Energy Return System (ERS) is comfortable right out of the box and stays that way for hours. Even after long stretches of play, the cushioning felt soft and supportive, not overly firm or punishing. For all-day wear or casual use, the comfort is easily one of the strongest selling points.

Materials

The upper is made of molded TPU, which feels solid, supportive, and surprisingly soft. The shoe is on the heavier side, but once you start moving, the weight becomes less noticeable and can even help you feel grounded. The rubber outsole is sturdy and includes Reese’s initials, adding a small personal touch. However, traction between my two pairs was inconsistent—my second pair required frequent wiping, which made playing feel less stable. Floor conditions may have contributed, but it’s still something to be aware of.

If you plan to wear the ‘Angel Reese 1’ outdoors, expect the outsole to wear down more quickly. For casual, everyday use, the materials should hold up just fine.

Overall thoughts

After trying two different sizes, I can say that while the cushioning and materials are impressive, the inconsistent fit makes the shoe difficult to recommend for on-court play—particularly for those who value stability and safety. Others may have different experiences, so trying them on in-store (if you can find them in stock) is strongly advised.

While I don’t plan to continue playing in either pair, I do see potential in the design. With a few improvements, future versions could easily be standouts. For now, they’re best suited for casual wear rather than active performance.

If you’re interested, Black Friday is a smart time to buy. Reebok is offering $15 off orders of $150+ with code SAVE15, and Finish Line is offering an extra 10% off with code STATUS10. The ‘Mebounds’ colorway is nearly fully sold out, but other neutral options like simple beige, Diamond Dust, and Receipts Ready are still available—at least for the moment!
