‘I will end his career’: Yordan calls Kambosos ‘nobody,’ vows to KO him

Daud Yordan says he’ll end George Kambosos Jr’s career when the two meet on Mar. 22 in Sydney, Australia, which will be Kambosos’ first fight in his home city since 2016.

“George is a nobody. This will be his fourth loss (in Australia) in a row,” Yordan said. “I will KO him and end his career. … George is going to get a boxing lesson like a child learning to walk for the first time.”

The 37-year-old Yordan (43-4, 31 KO) will come in from Indonesia for what will be just his fourth fight this decade and second since 2022. Now nicknamed “The Boxing Senator” — because, you guessed it, he is a Senator in Indonesia — was last seen by most fans outside of Indonesia or Thailand in a 2018 loss to Anthony Crolla in Manchester, England.

Kambosos’ team did quickly respond on social media through his Ferocious Promotions page, commenting, “Tough talk from the Senator. Seems a little upset this morning! The bill must (have) not got passed. Yordan thinks he’s Devin Haney or Vasiliy Lomachenko. Settle, Senator, settle.”

Kambosos (21-3, 10 KO) is 1-3 in his last four fights, with two losses to Haney and one to Lomachenko, broken up by a controversial win over Maxi Hughes, which took place in Oklahoma in the summer of 2023.

He’ll be a strong favorite in the fight even with his recent form, and the bout is his attempt to join the 140 lb contenders after closing out his lightweight run in rocky fashion. At 31, Kambosos has time on paper, but will be looking to get a move on if he plans to challenge for world titles at the new weight.

Kambosos also can’t afford to simply look past Yordan, either; until proven otherwise, the veteran should be taken as tough and motivated, though he is really a natural featherweight whose biggest fights came well over a decade ago in 2010 and 2011 losses to Celestino Caballero and Chris John, both of whom are long retired.
