PERISTERI, Greece – Game two of the Illinois women’s basketball foreign tour saw the Illini earn a 106-42 victory over Amilla Peristeriou on Friday. The win moved the Fighting Illini to 2-0 on the trip and Shauna Green is now 5-0 as the head coach in foreign tour games.
Gretchen Dolan led all scorers with 21 points on a 9-for-12 shooting performance, which included connecting on a trio of 3-pointers. Kendall Bostic turned in another double-double as the fifth-year tallied 20 points and 12 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Freshman Hayven Smith added her own double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Jasmine Brown-Hagger (13) and Brynn Shoup-Hill (11) rounded out the Illini scoring in double figures.
Makira Cook dished out 10 of Illinois’ 31 assists with Cori Allen adding six more. The Orange and Blue assisted on 31-of-44 made field goals for a 70.5 assist percentage.
No Illini player registered more than 23 minutes of action.
The Illini used the same starting line up as in Italy, with Genesis Bryant, Cook, Adalia McKenzie, Shoup-Hill, and Bostic taking the floor first. This unit pushed out to an 18-0 lead before being subbed out for a new line around four minutes into the first quarter. Illinois would push out to a 29-4 advantage after the opening frame.
Illinois’ highest scoring output came in the second quarter with 34 points to take a 63-20 lead into the break. The Illini went 6-for-10 from behind the arc in the frame.
After three quarters, Illinois led 80-32 before closing the game with a 26-point fourth for the final 106-42 margin.
Prior to the game, Illinois completed a walking tour through the Acropolis and its museum in Athens. The Illini will stay Friday night in Athens before spending the final two nights in Glyfada, Greece. An island-hopping boat tour and free day in Glyfada are still on the docket before the flight back home.
