The Indiana Fever put on a stellar show in their first game post the WNBA season break. Led by Caitlin Clark, the Eastern Conference team triumphed over the Phoenix Mercury with a score of 98-89. A standout moment in the action-packed game was Clark’s impressive 29-point, 10-assist double-double, along with some pointed remarks directed at Angel Reese by the announcer towards the end.
Despite facing a team with 3 players from the USA’s 2024 Olympic gold medal-winning squad, Clark managed to secure the victory for her team in just 35:43 minutes. This was her shortest playing time since the June 21st game against the Atlanta Dream, where she displayed an outstanding performance with 29 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds.
Achieving a points-assist double-double in a shorter 40-minute WNBA game is no easy task. However, the announcer from the Fever seemed to belittle Clark’s accomplishment by suggesting that a points-rebound double-double is more straightforward.
“Little easier to get the points-rebound double-double, especially in a 40-minute WNBA game than it is to points-assist double-doubles.”
The announcer’s comments seemed to be directed at Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky, known for her ability to accumulate points-rebounds double-doubles.
Regardless of the announcer’s opinion on the ease of recording a points-rebound double-double, Reese has made a strong impression in her rookie season.
In addition to breaking Candace Parker’s record for most consecutive double-doubles in a season, Reese has also topped the league with 18 double-doubles.
With an average of 13.4 points and a league-leading 12 rebounds per game, Reese is posing a tough challenge to Caitlin Clark for the coveted 2024 Rookie of the Year title.
