PHOENIX — The Indiana Fever suffered another blow to their point guard depth on Thursday night.
Backup point guard Sydney Colson left the game with a left leg injury in the first quarter of the Fever’s game against the Mercury in Phoenix and was ruled out.
It was a non-contact injury; her knee buckled as she landed on one foot while going for a rebound, then took a hard fall. She stayed down on the floor, looking to be in immense pain, and coach Steph White immediately called a timeout.
Her teammates and staff surrounded her, shielding her from the crowd with towels as trainers assessed her on the floor. She was eventually helped off the floor by trainer Todd Champlin and teammate Bri Turner, putting no weight on her left leg.
Colson’s injury will test the Fever’s depth at point, as starting point guard Caitlin Clark has been out since July 16 with no timetable for return with a right groin injury. With Colson out, as well, the only healthy true point guard on Indiana’s roster is Aari McDonald.
