Before she became a bona fide WNBA superstar with the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark was already making waves in college basketball with the Iowa Hawkeyes. She played four seasons in the NCAA, during which she set the all-time Division 1 scoring record, among other things.
It was also with the Hawkeyes that Clark got the chance to become teammates with Gabbie Marshall. These two shared the backcourt for four years as Iowa’s two starting guards. They both played their final year for the Hawkeyes in 2024, leading the team to the National Championship game, where they ultimately lost to South Carolina.

Clark and Marshall formed quite a bond through their time together at Iowa. Their friendship has extended beyond their stint as teammates, and these two have remained connected despite parting ways.
On Christmas Day, Marshall announced some tragic news. She took to social media to share that her beloved dog, Shiloh, had passed away.
“We can’t gather the right words to say right now, but we wanted to post something for the HUNDREDS of people who loved Shy.
“Yesterday Shiloh passed away in a tragic accident. We all are fine and nobody is hurt,” Marshall posted on Instagram.

Marshall, 25, did not reveal the details of her pooch’s passing, but she expressed her love for Shiloh in a lengthy and very emotional post. She ended her tribute with a heartbreaking statement: “We pray our souls meet again. We love you Shiloh ❤️”
Support began pouring in from friends and fans alike, with Clark dropping in on the comments section to send a message to her good friend.
“Love you guys 💓💓💓💓” Clark wrote.
The Fever star kept her reaction short, but her show of support goes a long way amid Marshall’s unfortunate situation.

A few of Clark and Marshall’s other Hawkeyes teammates also sent their love.
“I love my shy shy baby girl so much,” commented Kate Martin.
“My first niece, love you forever shy shy booty butts🩷🩷” Jada Gyamfi wrote.
“Love shy❤️❤️and love you guys. Sending prayers,” reacted Sydney Affolter.
“Love and praying for you🩷” Kylie Feuerbach posted.
“Sending so much love. Love you guys and shy 🤍🤍” said McKenna Warnock.
The outpouring of support is a clear indication of the strong bond between the former Iowa players. They may no longer be on the same team, but the fact that they have all rallied behind Marshall during these trying times proves that their friendship has transcended the basketball court.
