Caitlin Clark had a groundbreaking first year in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever. She was awarded Rookie of the Year and led the team to the Playoffs. However, she recently opened up about feeling “upset” during her draft experience.
Speaking on the Fresh Tawk podcast, Clark shared that being selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Fever came with unexpected challenges. After shaking hands with WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, she felt rushed and didn’t have much time to celebrate with her loved ones.
“I was so upset because after I got drafted, I was taken away quickly and didn’t get to enjoy the moment,” Clark expressed to her former Hawkeyes teammates.
Clark reflected on missing out on celebrating with her family and friends, including not getting to see her teammate Kate Martin get drafted. This experience left her feeling disappointed.

Clark’s exceptional rookie season with the Fever saw the team reach the Playoffs, although they were eliminated in the first round. In the upcoming season, the Fever will be coached by Stephanie White, who is returning to the franchise after a previous stint.
