Indianapolis has been selected to host the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend, as reported by news sources.
The announcement, expected to be made official soon, signifies the first time the city will host the event. ESPN reports the selection based on anonymous sources. The event is anticipated to take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and will include multiple days of activities, such as a skills competition and three-point contest.
Following the hosting of the NBA All-Star game in February, Indianapolis will now host the WNBA All-Star game next year. This marks the third instance since the league’s establishment in 1999 that the same city has been chosen to host both mid-season events in consecutive years.
The Indiana Fever have garnered significant attention this season, especially after drafting Caitlin Clark as the top pick in the WNBA draft in April. This move has generated immense interest in the team, leading to numerous sold-out games both at home and on the road.
At least 38 of the team’s games this season will be broadcasted, with 10 of those games in the first half of the season already breaking WNBA viewership records.
In her rookie season, Clark has set records with 19 assists in a single game and being the first rookie to achieve a triple double. She also holds the record for the most turnovers in a single season.
The economic impact of the 2025 WNBA All-Star weekend is currently unknown.
Indianapolis being named as the host for next year follows the success of July’s All-Star game between Team USA and a team of WNBA players, including three Indiana Fever players: Caitlin Clark, Aaliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell. The game became the most-watched WNBA All-Star game in history, attracting 3.44 million viewers. The previous record was 1.44 million viewers in 2003.
