INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis will host the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game for the first time at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on July 19, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
The summer’s game pitted the All-Star team against the U.S. Olympic team and took place in front of a sold-out crowd of 16,407 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. The All-Stars emerged victorious with a 117-109 win on July 20, in what became the most-watched WNBA All-Star Game with a television audience of 3.44 million viewers.
“The city of Indianapolis and the entire state of Indiana have a remarkable passion for basketball, positioning them as the ideal hosts to celebrate the WNBA and its top stars,” stated WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
A 3-point shooting contest and skills challenge are scheduled for July 18.
The Indiana Fever, with rookie standout Caitlin Clark generating buzz, have played a significant role in the WNBA’s increased popularity this year. The Fever’s average attendance, leading the WNBA with just under 17,000 fans, and setting TV viewership records in 10 games, exemplify this surge.
“We are at a pivotal moment in the WNBA and women’s basketball history, and we are excited that Indiana will take center stage with the game’s brightest stars showcased at next year’s All-Star Game,” commented Mel Raines, CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment. “Our community leaders are prepared to offer a warm welcome to fans from near and far, set new standards for future host cities, and deliver a lasting legacy for our city and state.”
