Inside Bronny’s ‘Special Treatment’ at the Lakers
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

It’s no secret that Bronny James is treated differently to other players, but one NBA insider thinks the Lakers’ new plan for him is ‘detrimental’.

Bronny made his G League debut for the South Bay Lakers over the weekend, scoring six points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot on 2-of-9 shooting including 0-of-4 from three-point range in 31 minutes of playing time – far more time than he’s gotten in the NBA so far.

The team explained that he will be going from the Lakers to the G League team on a regular basis, but with a special arrangement that ESPN insider Brian Windhorst isn’t a big fan of.

“He’s only going to play in the South Bay Lakers’ home games,” Windhorst said, via The Hoop Collective. “He’s only going to kind of be a part-time G League player, and he’s not getting on United Airlines to fly to these road games. I know he’s getting somewhat special treatment and nepotism. That’s fine; honestly, I don’t care. Like I said, it’s normal. Now, I think it’s actually detrimental to him. I don’t like that. I don’t know whose idea it was, but obviously, the Lakers are fine with it—they’re doing it. On this particular instance, I think that’s gone too far, and I don’t think it benefits Bronny. I don’t think it benefits the South Bay Lakers, and I don’t think it benefits LeBron at this point.”

Everyone has their opinions on LeBron’s son, and former NBA player Gilbert Arenas thinks the biggest issue Bronny faces is his lack of hostility.

“I like the bones of what he could be. I just think the problem with Bronny’s game, the biggest problem, is he’s not aggressive. And when you’re not looking to score, it becomes a problem, right? It’s like the Ben Simmons case,” Arenas said.

“When you’re looking to make passes, you miss everything. If you just be ultra-aggressive—like, ‘I’m looking to score; you stop me, then I make the pass’—but if you’re sitting here trying to make a pass and the rim’s right here, it becomes a harder game,” Gil continued on his evaluation of the younger James’ game.
