Kazuto Ioka and Fernando Martinez are set to face off at the Kokugikan arena in Tokyo, Japan, to unify the World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBF super flyweight titles next Sunday.
Ioka, the Japanese fighter, currently holds the WBA belt, while the Argentinean Martinez is the IBF champion. They will battle it out in a highly anticipated clash for both titles.
This will mark Ioka’s second defense of his belt, which he won on June 24, 2023, against Joshua Franco in Tokyo. He successfully defended his title last December 31 against Josber Perez.
On the other hand, Martinez, who remains undefeated at 32 years old, became champion on February 26, 2022, after defeating Jerwin Ancajas by unanimous decision in Las Vegas. He defended his title against Ancajas in October 2022 and then knocked out Jade Bornea in 11 rounds in Minneapolis.
Ioka boasts a record of 31 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw, and 16 knockouts, while Martinez maintains a flawless record of 16 wins, with 9 of those coming by knockout.
