The U.S. women’s national basketball team will look to continue its domination of the Olympics in its 2024 Paris Olympics opener vs. Japan on Monday.
A’ja Wilson, the 2023 WNBA Finals MVP, is entering her second Olympics and will be one of the team’s main contributors as the U.S. prepares to take on Japan in its Pool C group play opener. Wilson, 27, helped the U.S. earn gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup star in 2022, leading the U.S. with 17.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Team USA has a 72-3 record and seven straight gold medals in the Olympics, with its last loss on the stage coming in 1992.

Wilson, of course, played college under legendary women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley at South Carolina. She helped the Gamecocks win their first national championship in 2017, being named the Most Outstanding Player. Wilson was the first overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft to the Las Vegas Aces.
