Tempe, AZ & Stockholm, Sweden – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (“ITA”) and PlayReplay, Inc. are thrilled to announce today a three year partnership to bring electronic line calling to all divisions of college tennis. PlayReplay is the first and only, electronic line calling system officially approved by the ITA for use in college tennis.  The PlayReplay system has been approved by the ITA as a review (challenge) system and can be deployed for indoor and outdoor use, for singles and doubles play, and for unofficiated, roved, and chaired matches.

This groundbreaking approval comes after PlayReplay became the first system to obtain a Silver Classification for indoor and outdoor use from the International Tennis Federation (“ITF”) who are responsible for accuracy testing amongst electronic line calling systems. With the Silver Classification from the ITF and the formal approval from the ITA, PlayReplay is the only electronic line calling system that is authorized by both organizations.

For three years, PlayReplay will be the exclusive electronic line calling provider at several of the most prestigious ITA Championships in both the fall and spring seasons. In the fall, PlayReplay will be used at the ITA Men’s and Women’s All-American Championships in Tulsa and Cary. Meanwhile, in the spring, the ITA Division I Men’s and Women’s National Team Indoor Championships will continue to use the PlayReplay system for all matches.

“Following a series of successful shadow tests and pilot programs in recent years, we are proud to officially announce our partnership with PlayReplay, a leader in electronic line-calling innovation,” stated ITA CEO David Mullins. “This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our ongoing commitment to enhancing the integrity, accuracy, and fairness of the game. By integrating PlayReplay’s cutting-edge technology into college tennis, we’re equipping officials, student-athletes, and coaches with the best tools to manage college tennis competition. Special thanks to ITA COO Cory Brooks and ITA Senior Director of Officiating Anthony Montero for their leadership in bringing this initiative to life. Together, the ITA and PlayReplay are setting a new standard for collegiate tennis.”

Working with PlayReplay during a year-long pilot over the 2024-25 college tennis season, college tennis players and fans alike have already experienced the benefits of the PlayReplay electronic line calling system at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, ITA Men’s All-American Championships, and other dual match and tournament events over the past season.

During this pilot, the PlayReplay system was tested in both indoor and outdoor environments and consistently performed at the highest levels regardless of the conditions. Used for more than 50 dual matches, PlayReplay has served as the electronic line calling system in more than 500 individual matches across both singles and doubles in the past year.

Based on the data from the year-long pilot, and the success seen from the PlayReplay system, the ITA Rules Committee in May formally approved the use of electronic line calling systems in college tennis from ITA-approved providers.  Under those new ITA rules, acquisition and use of an ITA-approved ELC system during non-conference, conference or post-season play remains the purview of the ITA-member host institution, conference office and/or other governing body (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA, etc.).

ITA Senior Director of Officiating Anthony Montero said, “Electronic line calling, accuracy tested and classified by the ITF, represents a critical and innovative tool for college tennis officials that will ensure that the most accurate calls are made during college matches and tournaments. The focus of college tennis will remain on the college players, their teams, and the great tennis that they play.”

The ITA-PlayReplay partnership provides that ITA member institutions, across all levels of play, will receive preferred pricing to the PlayReplay system which they can use to install the system at their facility for dual matches, tournaments, and practices on a daily basis.

Using a minimally intrusive camera solution, the PlayReplay system offers coaches much more than an electronic line calling system as analytics such as shot speed, court positioning, in/out percentage, and many other useful metrics can also be observed straight from the system.

“We are exceptionally proud to be selected as the first and only provider that meets the high demands of collegiate tennis,” stated PlayReplay CEO Hans Lundstam. “Moreover, we find it highly inspirational to work with ITA as we share the mission of bringing technology and fair play to all colleges across the US.”

If you are interested in learning more about the PlayReplay system we encourage you to visit www.playreplay.io/ where you can find all of the information about the system. PlayReplay can also be followed on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn for additional updates.

The ITA is the governing body of college tennis and a coaches association, both an advocate and an authority for the sport and its members. The ITA is committed to serving college tennis and returning the leaders of tomorrow while promoting both the athletic and academic achievements of the collegiate tennis community. The ITA, founded in 1956, is comprised of more than 2,000 men’s and women’s varsity tennis teams representing more than 1,250 institutions, 3,000 college tennis coaches, 1,400 college tennis officials, while administering numerous regional and national championships, and the ITA College Tennis Rankings for 20,000 college varsity student-athletes across seven levels of play. The ITA also bolsters an industry-leading awards program for players and coaches to honor excellence in academics, leadership, and sportsmanship. Keep up with all of the excitement around college tennis by visiting WeAreCollegeTennis.com and following the ITA on Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
