TEMPE, Ariz. – Halfway through the ITA Community Service Challenge, a two-month initiative built on service and community involvement, more than 100 acts of service have already been charted, showcasing the difference college programs around the country are making in their respective communities.
Throughout the month of October, the ITA is pleased to have seen numerous programs from all levels of the sport commit to helping their communities. Acts of service continue to range in various ways, whether it be on the tennis court, in the classroom or at a local children’s hospital.

The New Mexico Women’s team spent two hours serving pediatric cancer patients and their families at the UNM Children’s Hospital in Albuquerque, distributing meals to patients, engaging with the children through recreational activities and providing companionship via movie night activities.
Across the country, the East Carolina Women guided kindergarteners and first-grade students through physical education classes to encourage health and wellness.
Both the University of Louisiana at Lafayette men’s and women’s team gave free doubles clinics to the school’s club tennis team, providing a chance to work alongside the team and bring the local tennis community together through the game.
In the holiday spirit, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s team decorated campus with holiday lights, while the Hillsdale women handed out candy to children at a community event.
As the calendar turns to November, teams will continue to have opportunities to give back to their community throughout the remainder of the month. About the ITA Community Service ChallengeThe Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the return of the ITA Community Service Challenge, a two month initiative for programs to give back to their communities that builds on the success and groundwork of the previously held ITA Community Service Month.
Set to take place over the months of October and November, any ITA member program is eligible to participate in the ITA Community Service Challenge. With prizes for the top finishers, programs will be going head-to-head earning points based on total community service hours and the number of student-athletes participating in each activity.
