IU basketball has completed the non-conference portion of the schedule and the Hoosiers are 10-3.
Ahead of the restart of Big Ten play against Washington on January 4, we’re taking a player-by-player look at each rotation player on the roster’s performance thus far this season.

DeVries’s numbers through 13 games
The leading active scorer in college basketball with 2,197 points, DeVries is Indiana’s second leading scorer at 16.2 points per game.
He’s attempting 8.8 3-pointers per game and is shooting 35.7 from deep despite a recent shooting slump. He’s also shooting a career-best 88.4 percent from the free-throw line.
DeVries also averages 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and a steal in 32.5 minutes per game.
What’s gone right for DeVries
DeVries has four games with 20 or more points, including a 27-point effort against Marquette on Nov. 9 and 26 points against Louisville on Dec. 6.
He’s made three or more 3-pointers in eight of Indiana’s 13 games. DeVries is connecting on 3.2 3-pointers per game, putting him on pace to make 98 by the end of the regular season.
The fifth-year senior also has a pair of double-doubles and is the leading rebounder for the Hoosiers.
When he’s hot from the perimeter, the shot-making of DeVries is a game-changer for the Hoosiers. He collected a pair of game MVPs in wins against Lindenwood and Bethune Cookman, shooting a combined 10-for-20 from distance in those wins.
He’s also carried a heavy load, minutes-wise, as he has been on the floor more than any other Hoosier through 13 games.
Areas for concern for DeVries
Perimeter shooting for DeVries has been inconsistent. Lately, he’s been struggling from distance and the extended holiday break could be helpful for a reset.
Since IU’s loss against Minnesota on Dec. 3, DeVries is 15-for-56 on 3-pointers, good for only 26.7 percent. The Hoosiers are 3-3 over that stretch of games.
Defensively, DeVries can be a target for opposing teams. His situational awareness and positioning are usually strong, but he struggles to guard more athletic and quicker players.
His free-throw rate of 26.2 percent is down from his outstanding junior season at Drake. That season, DeVries had a free-throw rate of 34.2 percent, attempting 5.6 free throws per game. Through IU’s first 13 games, he’s getting to the line an average of 3.3 times per game.
Outlook for the rest of the 2025-26 season
Much like Lamar Wilkerson, Indiana needs DeVries to shoot the ball well from the perimeter to win games consistently.
As competition in Big Ten play increases, the Hoosiers will be even more reliant on big shooting games from DeVries to maintain an efficient offense.
He, along with Wilkerson and Nick Dorn, is a guy who can change the outlook of a game quickly with a perimeter shooting barrage.
In IU’s three losses, he’s 6-for-30 on 3-pointers. Big Ten teams will review film of those games to stay physical on the catch with DeVries and hope he wears down in the second halves of games due to the volume of minutes he’s playing.
