Ivan Juric has reportedly left Southampton following the club’s relegation from the Premier League yesterday.

The Croatian took charge in December, following the sacking of Russell Martin, but failed to inspire an improvement in results.

Saints lost 12 of his 14 games in charge, winning just one, and sit bottom of the table with their relegation – the earliest in Premier League history – confirmed following the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham.

0.29 – Southampton have picked up just four points in Ivan Jurić’s 14 Premier League games in charge (W1 D1 L12), giving the Croatian the lowest points-per-game average of any manager to take charge of 10+ games in the competition (0.29). Unsaintly. pic.twitter.com/nEwTfRfwgd

History repeating itself for Juric

It is the second time Juric has left a club this season. He took over at Roma in September last year following Daniele De Rossi’s departure but lasted just 12 games, losing five.

Juric signed an 18-month contract at St Mary’s and, speaking after the Spurs game, said he was willing to stay and lead their bid to make an immediate return to the top flight.

He said: “If we take the long road to come back here, I am ready.

“We have lots of young players, talented players. They are good but lack experience. There is a completely different physicality between us and other teams in the Premier League. The same thing happened to Leicester and Ipswich. The gap is huge but from this moment the players can grow up and improve and be ready for the Premier League; this is my idea.”

We’ve been relegated too easily – Juric

It is the second time Southampton have been relegated from the Premier League in three years and Juric believes a thorough review is required to ensure it does not happen the next time they play among England’s elite.

“It’s clear that the last two years in the Premier League we haven’t competed,” Juric said.

“We’ve been relegated too easily and that means huge problems in a lot of situations. Now it’s important to understand all the mistakes and try to create something good.”
