Former Alpine Formula 1 driver Jack Doohan received death threats prior to the 2025 Miami Grand Prix.
Doohan, who contested seven grands prix for Alpine before he was replaced by Franco Colapinto after the Miami race last season, made the shocking revelation in the new series of Netflix’s Drive to Survive, which is released this Friday.
“I got serious death threats for this [Miami] Grand Prix, saying they’re going to kill me here, if I’m not out of the car,” Doohan says in an episode entitled “Strictly Business”.
“I had six or seven emails saying if I am still in the car by Miami, all my limbs will be cut off.
“Wednesday, I was there with my f***ing girlfriend and my trainer, and I’ve got three armed men around me – I had to call my police escort to come and get it under control.”

In an interview with The Times, Doohan added: “I wasn’t able to enjoy being a Formula 1 driver, something I dreamt of for so long. So yeah, it’s pretty s***.”
Speculation that Doohan would be replaced started before a wheel was even turned in 2025 after Alpine signed Colapinto as its reserve driver over the winter.
The rumours became reality after six pointless outings for Doohan, who also suffered two heavy crashes.
F1 reprieve for Doohan
Doohan has joined Haas as a reserve driver for the 2026 F1 season.
The 22-year-old Australian, who was a free agent after parting ways with Alpine at the end of 2025, will serve as a back-up to Haas regulars Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman.

”I’m thrilled to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team. It’s the ideal place to continue my Formula 1 career,” Doohan, the son of five-time MotoGP world champion Mick Doohan, said upon the announcement.
“I would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to grow and take on the great challenge of 2026 together. I’m eager to begin working with the team and collaborating on a successful season.”
