The Dodgers took the lead in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, setting the tone for the series. The Mets fought back in Game 2 with a 7-3 victory, but Jack Flaherty’s performance in Game 1 was crucial.
Flaherty, the Dodgers’ right-handed ace and a Los Angeles native, showcased his best performance of the season in Game 1.
He dominated the Mets with ease, impressing everyone including his mother, Eileen Flaherty, who shared a heartfelt message on Twitter/X after his outstanding performance in the NLCS Game 1.
“20 years later…this kid had his moment at Dodgers Stadium in the NLCS Game 1. We are so thankful for the joyful hugs, beaming smiles, and overwhelming support. Let’s GO Blue! Mama Flare,” tweeted Eileen.
Flaherty, a lifelong Dodgers fan, delivered the game of his life in NLCS Game 1. He pitched seven outstanding innings, allowing only two hits, zero runs, two walks, and recording six strikeouts on 98 pitches. His performance also helped the Dodgers break a National League postseason record for scoreless innings.
After the game, Flaherty expressed his gratitude for pitching in his familiar stadium and in front of his family.
“Man, those are the days, those are the best days we had,” Flaherty said. “I still have my buddies I played with, saw a couple of them there in the stands. Just real cool. Real cool having the support of all of them.”
Flaherty’s teammate Will Smith noted his special competitive aura, evident in his stellar performance on Sunday.
“He’s got an aura about him,” Smith said. “He’s super competitive, super focused. I see all his preparation he does for the couple days before the start. It’s intense.”
Flaherty is set to pitch again in Game 5 in New York, continuing to live his dream of playing for his hometown team on the biggest stage.
