The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to begin the 2024 campaign with high expectations, possibly the highest in franchise history. Despite being second in odds to win the AFC South behind the Houston Texans, the Jaguars boast talent across the roster. They are well-positioned to make a playoff return after narrowly missing out last season, as owner Shad Khan emphasized in his recent comments.
In a clip from The Hunt, a series on the team’s official website, Khan reiterated his previous statement about the team’s expectation to win now.
According to NFL.com:
“About a month ago, we celebrated the city’s partnership with the Jaguars and the approval of funding for the new stadium of the future,” Khan began. “So, I met with the reporters and the discussion obviously quickly turned to football and I was quoted, ‘For us, winning now is the expectation.’ So really I (have) been looking forward to tonight to set the record straight. I was not misquoted. And let me just repeat, winning now is the expectation.”
This is a bold statement, but a fair and understandable one. The Jaguars not only made the playoffs two years ago but also staged an impressive comeback victory against the Los Angeles Chargers before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20.
While the Jaguars were in a prime position to win the AFC South title last season, they faltered in the final stretch, losing five of the last six games and missing the playoffs. Khan believes the team will bounce back, and with improved competition from the Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville still has the potential to make a postseason comeback in 2024.
