Get ready for some truth straight from Magno’s bulging mail sack. This week, we’re talking about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, the Saudi boxing plan, and some fan mail/hate mail.
Jake Paul and Mike Tyson
Hey Paul.
Randy Tulane has a two-part question about the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight this Friday:
1) What do you think of Jake Paul as a fighter? It’s hard to gauge his skills based on his opponents. What’s your take?
2) Why is Mike Tyson still so popular? He seems more popular than current fighters. Any thoughts?
— Randy Tulane
Hey Randy.
1. To me, Jake Paul looks like a club-level fighter. His skills may have regressed recently. It’s tough to judge his abilities given his opponents. We probably won’t learn much from the Tyson fight.
2. Mike Tyson was an explosive fighter with mainstream exposure. He’s just a compelling figure and an enduring star.
The Saudi Boxing Model
Magno.
Vinny Vegas asks about the Saudi boxing league model and its long-term sustainability. What happens when the current stars fade out?
— Vinny Vegas
Hey Vinny.
Development of new fighters is a key concern with the Saudi takeover. Without lower-level support, the future is uncertain. Promoters may be expected to groom new talent for the Saudis.
