NEW YORK- Jake Paul and Mike Tyson held their press conference Sunday at the Fanatics Fest in New York City. The event started later than planned but both men were able to trade barbs with moderation done by Ryan Clarke. The November 15 event seems ready to go as Tyson let fans know he was healthy and back to training but Paul told the former heavyweight champion something that could add to the “what if” factor of the event.
While the standard trash talk took place, one exchange that stood out was that Tyson predicted Paul would try to run from him when they finally met. Tyson said, “Listen; as soon as I catch this guy, because you know he’s going to be running around. But as soon as I catch this guy it’s going to be totally over Jake.” Tyson added, “He’s going to run like a thief.”
Which, from a strategic point of view would make sense to use footwork against an older opponent.
However, Paul responded with a promise to meet him in the middle.
“No, we can meet in the middle,” Paul said when asked if that was his strategy, and looked to Tyson and said, “Let’s meet in the middle.”
“That’s what I want,” replied Tyson.
While that may be what they are saying, once the bell rings anything can happen and that really seems to be the draw for this event. The possibility of Mike Tyson adding another knockout to his record by defeating the “Youtuber” in Paul, or Paul delivering a knockout loss to the 58-year-old Tyson.
The event still looks to be the first live-streaming combat sports event on Netflix for all subscribers. It airs on November 15 from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas if no other issues arise. Tickets for Paul vs. Tyson are on sale now at Seatgeek.com.
