Jane Hedengren is Three for Three in College Cross-Country!
Jane Hedengren sets two course records in her first two races for the College Cross-Country powerhouse, Brigham Young University!
In her first collegiate cross-country course, Jane Hedengren won the Pre-NCAA Cross-Country at the Gans Creek Course in Missouri. Jane ran 18:42 and won by a ‘substantial margin’. That would be the theme of her first three races: winning by ’substantial margins.’
In her second college cross-country race, Jane Hedengren won the Big Twelve Cross-Country Championships, setting a course record of 18:29.6 and leading the BYU women to their third consecutive cross-country team title. Jane’s 18:29.6 is her 6-kilometer cross-country PB!
In her third college cross-country race, Jane Hedengren won the NCAA Mountain Regional in 19:06.6, winning by 42 seconds. Jane led her team to an impressive performance, with BYU, placing six runners in the top 20!
This last year has been incredible for Jane. It began in December 2024, when, in the pouring rain, Jane Hedengren won the NIKE Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon. In the 2025 Indoor and Outdoor season, Jane Hedengren broke nine American records, from the mile to the 5,000 meters, including an incredible two-mile race!
That incredible high school last year gave her the Gatorade Track & Field Athlete of the Year and then, this fall, the Track & Field Girls High School Athlete of the Year. By the time Jane Hedengren was recognized for her incredible year, she had moved on to Brigham Young University and was 3-3 in collegiate cross-country. On the eve of the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Division I Championships, Jane Hedengren looks like the first actual freshman to have a distinct chance of winning the collegiate cross-country title!

Of Jane Hedengren, Diljeet Taylor, BYU Women’s Cross Country Head coach, told the #DeseretNews:
“She is one of one. I talk about her being, instead of a generational talent, a Jane-rational talent, and that’s true. She’s proving that week in, week out,” Taylor said.
