Shohei Ohtani made history in the regular season by hitting 50 home runs and stealing 50 bases, a first in Major League Baseball.
To recognize his achievements, Japanese Airlines has paid tribute to him in a unique way – by featuring his face on a jet.
The Dream Sho Jet, with Ohtani’s design, took flight on Sept. 29 and is set to operate until March 2026.
The special aircraft, designed by Ohtani, offers unique amenities such as special cups and in-flight leaflets for passengers.
It is hoped that Ohtani’s success will inspire the youth of Japan to pursue their dreams just like he did.
While Ohtani has a partnership with Japan Airlines, the Los Angeles Dodgers have a contract with All Nippon Airways.
Japan Airlines aims to promote relationships and connections through travel, launching the “DREAM MILES PASS” project on Sept. 27, 2024, to support young dreamers like Shohei Ohtani. Through this project, travel assistance is provided to JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) members.
JAL is highlighting Ohtani’s journey, emphasizing his dedication to chasing his dreams from high school to the major leagues. Inspired by his story, JAL’s campaign, “Give every dream a chance to take flight,” will offer airline tickets to young individuals pursuing their aspirations.
JMB members can contribute to this cause by donating their miles, with each mile converting to one yen for providing airfare to young dreamers in Japan.
JAL plans to continue this initiative in multiple phases, ensuring that as many young people as possible have the opportunity to pursue their goals through travel.
