Jaron Ennis vs Eimantas Stanionis Fight Recap

The opening round saw Stanionis start on the front foot, but “Boots” picked his shots well, showcasing his blistering hand speed. The Lithuanian fighter landed a smart counter left, but it was a good round for Ennis.

The second round saw Ennis control the distance effectively with his jab and produce some eye-catching bodywork, with Stanionis landing only single shots.

During the opening few rounds, “Boots” looked sharper, but Stanionis had small pockets of success, punching with Ennis – but the speed and pop in the punches from Ennis, especially to the body, caught the eye early on. The fifth round saw Stanionis have success when closing the distance well before Ennis upped the ante and mixed his shots brilliantly, backing the WBA champ up towards the end of the round.

The sixth round was dazzling from “Boots” as he hurt Stanionis with vicious body shots, knocking his opponent down. While in the corner at the end of the sixth round, the corner of Stanionis declared No mas, and that was all she wrote. Jaron Ennis was declared the winner and the unified IBF/WBA and Ring Magazine welterweight champion. That was a clinical, surgical performance from the 147-pound king.

Undercard

Raymond Ford (17-1-1, 8 KOs) controlled the tempo and distance throughout his super featherweight bout against Thomas Mattice (22-5-1, 17 KOs), winning by a unanimous decision with the judges scorecards all reading 100-90, ensuring he comfortably retained his WBA Continental North America title.

Omari Jones (2-0, 2 KO) made quick work of William Jackson (13-6-2, 5 KOs) in their welterweight contest with a well-timed body shot, which left Jackson unable to beat the count, giving “Banger” the first-round KO win.

Shakhram Giyasov (17-0, 10 KOs) mixed his shots and showcased his brilliant bodywork, stopping Franco Ocampo (17-3, 8 KOs) in round four of their welterweight clash.

Before the Bell

Highly regarded super featherweight prospect Zaquin Moses (3-0, 2 KO) showed his ability once again, stopping Alex Pallette (1-4, 1 KO) in the second round. Moses showed poise and excellent variation during this dominating KO victory.

Tahmir Smalls (14-0, 10 KOs) extended his unbeaten record as he destroyed Earl Bascome (13-2, 2 KOs) in their welterweight fight, winning by first-round KO.

In the super bantamweight division, late replacement Edgar Joe Cortes (9-8-1, 1 KO) pushed the unbeaten Arturo Cardenas (16-0-1, 9 KOs) for the first half of the fight before Cardenas scored three knockdowns, with the referee waving the bout off after the final knockdown in round eight, awarding the Mexican the TKO win.

Francisco Rodriguez (7-0, 7 KOs) systematically broke Naheem Parker (5-2, 2 KOs) down – in their lightweight contest, with Parker’s corner withdrawing their fighter at the end of round three.
