Dallas always finds a way to entertain, even in defeat.
Despite the 47-9 loss to the Lions on Sunday, watching the Cowboys lose on their home turf is still must-see TV.
Since their last Super Bowl win nearly 30 years ago, the Cowboys have experienced plenty of lows. Sunday’s defeat felt like rock bottom, marking their worst loss since 2010 and the worst at home in a long time. It’s worth noting that this game coincided with team owner Jerry Jones’ 82nd birthday.
Usually, Jones has to wait until January for the Cowboys’ annual meltdown. This year, he got to witness a horror show before Halloween.
Not long ago, the Cowboys seemed like perennial contenders with a talented, young roster. They had star players like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons. However, after this loss to the Lions, the Cowboys appear to be struggling to even make it to the playoffs. Their 3-3 record includes narrow wins over the Giants and Steelers, and a few plays going differently could have them at 1-5.
The loss to the Lions highlighted the Cowboys’ weaknesses on both sides of the ball. They struggled without the injured Parsons to pressure Jared Goff and couldn’t stop the Lions’ run game. The defeat was reminiscent of their Week 3 loss to the Ravens, where they were dominated upfront and couldn’t protect Prescott.
Losing is one thing, but being humiliated at home when expectations were high is a different story.
The Cowboys’ struggles this season trace back to decisions made in the offseason. Jones opted for internal development and the draft over free agency, resulting in a top-heavy roster lacking depth. The team relies heavily on a few star players to carry them through games, which is not a sustainable strategy in the NFL.
Jones’s decisions, including retaining McCarthy and Schottenheimer, have backfired, leaving the Cowboys looking like a team in disarray.
The MVP of the week was Jordan Love, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, who showcased his talent in a 34-14 win over Arizona.
Love’s performance against the Cardinals demonstrated his growth as a quarterback, with accurate passes and command of the offense.
