CHARLOTTE – The Atlantic Coast Conference came calling on Tuesday afternoon, awarding Notre Dame’s Jessica Kovalcik with its ACC Freshman of the Week award. Kovalcik collected her first career weekly league honor and first for the Irish this season.
Kovalcik played a major role in Notre Dame’s dominant weekend, shutting out Purdue 7-0 on Friday, then UIC 7-0 on Sunday. The Illinois native went 2-o in singles, winning both her matches in straight sets:
Jessica Kovalcik (ND) def. Emmi Kolyszko (PUR), 6-0, 7-5
Jessica Kovalcik (ND) def. Anais Brion (UIC), 6-0, 6-1
As a result, Kovalcik improved to 7-0 in singles dual matches this spring and 12-6 overall on the year.
Kovalick and the rest of the Fighting Irish are back in action on Feb. 13 at Louisville.
