The ongoing Jimmy Butler trade rumors have not shown any signs of slowing down, with the latest twist involving Pat Riley entering the fray.
On Christmas Day, Shams Charania provided an update, stating:
“Six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler is looking for a way out of Miami before the Feb. 6 deadline, according to sources familiar with the situation.”
“ESPN’s Inside Pass previously reported on Dec. 10 that the Heat are open to trade offers for Butler, who is seeking to join a championship contender. Although Butler has not officially requested a trade, reports indicate that he is prepared to leave.”
Shams also revealed that Miami is willing to entertain offers for Butler, who is eyeing a move to a team with legitimate title aspirations such as the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, and Houston Rockets.
Sources have indicated that Butler was upset when the Heat did not deny reports on Dec. 10 suggesting that the team was willing to deal him.
Tensions between the star forward and the Heat have reportedly risen since he was not offered a contract extension during the offseason.
Currently under a $49 million contract with the Heat for the current season, Butler also holds a $52 million player option for 2025-26.
With no extension agreement reached, speculation about a potential trade or free agency departure in 2025 has been rampant.
However, Heat president Pat Riley came forward today to dispel the trade rumors surrounding the team’s star player.
“While we typically do not address rumors, the ongoing speculation has become a distraction for the team and is unfair to the players and coaches,” Riley stated. “Therefore, let me make it clear – Jimmy Butler will not be traded.”
