Earlier this year, Jon Jones faced accusations of threatening a Drug Free Sport International officer. Despite claiming innocence, Jones has now been formally charged with 2 misdemeanors for his actions towards the worker.
Looking to make a comeback in the near future, there has been speculation about Jones potentially facing UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in his return fight. However, the 36-year-old seems to be unable to avoid trouble outside of the octagon.
Today, it was reported that Jon Jones has been charged with 2 misdemeanors related to his altercation with the DFSI officer at his home in New Mexico on March 30.
According to the incident report, two officers arrived at Jones’ home at 4 p.m. to collect a urine sample but the situation escalated when Jones struggled to provide the sample and was suggested to give a blood sample instead by one of the workers, Crystal Martinez.
Jones reacted poorly to the suggestion and allegedly threatened to sue Martinez before taking her phone and recording her.
MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin confirmed that Jon Jones is facing charges of assault and interference with communications. Jones could potentially face jail time and hefty fines if found guilty of both charges.
July 17 has been set as the date for Jones’ virtual bond hearing.
