LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Rising super lightweight prospect Jorge De Jesus has officially signed a promotional contract with Sampson Boxing, following his impressive upset win over previously unbeaten LaVonte Earley in May.
A proud Puerto Rican American, the 23-year-old southpaw from Lawrenceville, Georgia, turned pro in April 2022 after just five amateur bouts, and has since quickly made waves in the boxing world.
Breakout Performance on ProBox TV
In his most recent fight at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida, De Jesus shocked fans and pundits alike by outpointing the 18-0 Earley live on ProBox TV, showcasing exceptional speed, power, and composure.
“I had no doubt I was going in there to win. Losing was not an option,” said De Jesus. “I was extremely focused and did everything right. Winning made me feel like the hard work is paying off. I feel like a top professional now.”
Building a Champion Team
Under the guidance of respected trainer Alain Felipe at Felipe Boxing Gym in Norcross, GA, De Jesus has developed into a fast-handed, explosive contender with above-average strength for the 140-pound division.
“The dream was always there, but my coach said, ‘You can do this,’” said De Jesus. “He takes care of me and treats me like his own son.”
His manager, Andy Sun, played a key role in introducing the young fighter to renowned promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, making the dream partnership a reality.
“My manager said he would reach out to Sampson. I thought, ‘This is crazy. Why would he give us a chance?’ But he did, and it’s a blessing. I’m so thankful for my manager, my coach, and my new promoter. It’s a dream come true.”
Balancing Brains and Boxing
A civil engineering student at Emory University by day, De Jesus balances academics with the demands of a blossoming boxing career. He credits his family in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, for their unwavering support.
“They’ve always supported me. By next year, I want to show that Puerto Rico has another upcoming star and be ranked among the best. I am just as good as anybody else.”
Promoter’s Promise
Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, who has guided the careers of multiple world champions, sees big potential in De Jesus and plans to bring him back to the ring by late summer or early fall.
“I am very happy to be working with Jorge and his team,” said Lewkowicz. “He showed what he is made of on ProBox TV. We’re going to keep him busy and fine-tune him into the next great Puerto Rican-American world champion.”
De Jesus joins a long list of Puerto Rican-American boxing talent aiming for global recognition. With an undefeated record, a proven chin, and a dedicated team behind him, he’s now one of the sport’s most promising names to watch.
