Jorge Masvidal is getting ready to make his official UFC return in 2025 and hopes he’s able to finally settle his beef with former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
The two welterweights have shared bad blood dating back to a behind-the-scenes brawl at UFC London all the way back in 2019. UFC matchmakers failed to strike while the iron was hot and never booked an actual matchup between “Gamebred” and “Rocky” inside of the cage. Masvidal would go on to win the “BMF” title later that year while Edwards eventually became UFC’s undisputed champion at 170 pounds.
While it’s been over six years since their initial throwdown overseas Masvidal is still determined to get his hands on Edwards. The 40-year-old veteran hasn’t competed inside of the Octagon since parting ways with UFC following a loss to Gilbert Burns back in 2023, but Masvidal was always expected to eventually return to the promotion to finish out his career.
Earlier this week, Masvidal sat down with Submission Radio to discuss his potential return to UFC. “Gamebred” once again brought up Edwards’ name and called for a matchup inside of the cage. Masvidal seems extremely confident in his ability to outclass Edwards, who is coming off a disappointing submission loss to Sean Brady at UFC London earlier this month.

Jorge Masvidal calls out ‘fragile’ Leon Edwards for his return fight
“[I beat Leon] in every way, shape, and form. He can’t wrestle me for 5 rounds so I don’t have to worry about the takedowns. And I know on the feet he’s fragile compared to me.”

“Give me the Leon fight, and then after that I fight whoever has that damn belt,” said Masvidal.

What do you think, Maniacs? Should UFC book Masvidal vs. Edwards? Does Masvidal have an advantage over the former UFC champion?
Sound off!
