Serie A Femminile leaders Juventus maintained their unbeaten league record with a commanding 3-0 win over Napoli in their latest performance. Elsewhere on match-day eight, Fiorentina scored a late winner to snatch all three points from their gripping home clash with Inter.
Here, we will round up all the action from matchday eight, including a successful outing for five-star Roma.
Lazio 1-2 Como
The contest remained goalless until the referee awarded Como a 74th minute penalty. Substitute Julia Karlernäs confidently dispatched the spot-kick to net her second goal of the Serie A season. Just two minutes later, Clarisse Le Bihan spurned the chance to restore parity from the penalty spot. Astrid Gilardi guessed the right way as she dived to her right to deny Le Behin from 12 yards. Dominika Škorvánková then produced a sublime strike to double Como’s advantage. Le Bihan managed to pull a goal back in stoppage time, but it ultimately proved to be too little too late for Lazio.
Napoli 0-3 Juventus
Juventus showcased their quality to claim a comfortable win over Napoli at the weekend. Cristiana Girelli kept her composure from the penalty spot to get the visitors up and running in the ninth minute. Paulina Brumbiegel added a second before half time when she tapped home from Lindsey Thomas’ squared pass. Arianna Caruso scored the only goal of the second half, dispatching a 70th-minute penalty to wrap up a dominant display from the leaders. The win maintained Juventus’ unbeaten start to the season, leaving them one point clear at the top of the table.
Fiorentina 2-1 Inter
Former Real Madrid defender Ivana Andrés scored her first Inter goal to give her side the lead in the 25th minute. Inter held onto their narrow advantage until Verónica Boquete won a penalty around the hour mark. The forward stepped up to drive a low spot-kick out of the reach of Cecilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir.
Fiorentina completed the turnaround when Lucia Pastrenge scored against her former club in stoppage time. The substitute pounced on a loose ball in the box to fire home her first top-flight goal. As a result of the win, second-placed Fiorentina are now six points clear of Inter, who occupy third.
Sampdoria 1-5 Roma
Roma flew out of the blocks to net three goals inside the opening 20 minutes. Emilie Haavi drove home a left-footed strike, before Marta Pandini scored her first Serie A goal as a Roma player. Evelyne Viens then nodded past the onrushing Roberta Aprile to put her side in an unassailable position. Lucia Di Guglielmo added a fourth in the 86th minute before Alayah Pilgrim thumped home Roma’s fifth goal to pile the misery on Sampdoria.
Sofia Bertucci gave the hosts something to cheer when she netted a late consolation goal in stoppage time. However, that did little to dampen what was a successful day for the reigning Serie A Femminile champions.
AC Milan 1-0 Sassuolo
Milan required just one goal to take all three points from their home meeting with Sassuolo. The contest remained goalless until Evelyn Ijeh broke the deadlock in the 81st minute. Ijeh collected the ball in the box, before she chopped onto her left foot and drilled a low shot in at the near post. The 23-year-old’s fourth league goal of the season proved enough to guide Milan to their fourth win in the last five games. The win keeps them in fifth place, while Sassuolo are languishing at the foot of the table after suffering a sixth consecutive defeat.
