Kamilla Cardoso acknowledges that she was a challenge to deal with during this Chicago Sky season.
Following a shoulder injury in the preseason, Cardoso struggled with the idea of sitting out for four weeks. She clashed with team doctors and trainers, unwilling to accept the hiatus from basketball so early in her professional career.
Despite the initial hurdles, Cardoso returned to the court and showcased her potential as a dominant post player in the league. She finished the season averaging 9.8 points and 7.8 rebounds, with her performance improving significantly after the Olympic break.
However, the Sky faced challenges in effectively utilizing Cardoso as the No. 3 pick in the draft. She had one of the lowest shot attempts among starting centers, impacting her scoring output.
Cardoso expressed frustration with her shooting percentage and the team’s offensive tactics, which often failed to capitalize on her strengths as a mobile and agile player near the rim.
As she prepares to play in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association during the offseason, Cardoso aims to improve her shooting, defense, and overall game. She remains grateful for the opportunity to fulfill her dream of playing in the WNBA.
