Many people view Caitlin Clark as solely dedicated to her work and striving to be the best basketball player she can be. However, her former college teammate Kate Martin revealed a different side of her during her interview on Jada Gyamfi’s Fresh Talk podcast.
The Aces rookie shared a funny story about a prank she and the Fever guard played on people, including the podcast host, by dressing up in scary costumes. Martin explained that the idea came from a moment of boredom and required a lot of effort to execute. She mentioned,
“Me and Caitlin were bored one fall day and decided to drive to Walmart to buy a crazy wig, a scary pig mask, and a fake axe.”
The duo chose Gyamfi as their first target and attempted to scare her in her dorm room. Although Gyamfi was not there at the time, Clark waited in her closet for almost an hour to surprise her. Martin recalled,
“Jada just sat on her bed and suddenly Caitlin emerged from the closet with Kylie recording, causing Jada to scream in fright.”
Gyamfi admitted feeling terrified and thought she was in danger upon seeing the axe. The prank didn’t end there as Martin also surprised her later in the kitchen.
The pair attempted to prank Hawkeyes star Sydney Affolter and her boyfriend, but their plan backfired when Martin was tackled by the guard during the act.
Although their antics as fake axe-wielders didn’t go as planned, the story shows that Clark, despite her focus on basketball, can also unwind and have fun.
