Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard’s availability for Team USA for the Olympics was uncertain due to a right knee injury he suffered during the playoffs. Leonard has alleviated those concerns by stating that his knee has improved sufficiently for him to participate this summer.
“Yes, but I took the necessary time, and I have seen improvement over the past two weeks,” Leonard mentioned. “So, I am here now and enjoying myself.”
Leonard talked about the importance of managing his health for the rest of his career. He also mentioned that those who doubt his ability to continue playing are a source of motivation for him.
“Yes, but this is my personal journey, so I cannot predict the perfect outcome for myself,” Leonard expressed. “Last year, I tried to play as much as I could, felt great. However, there came a point where I couldn’t continue. I gave it my all, but it is all part of my journey. I may not want to be in this situation, but I have to accept it as it is. Many people are watching, whether they are supporters or critics, and I am a source of motivation for many.”
“Therefore, I must continue doing what I do. I may currently be in the spotlight due to injury or other reasons, but there are players who have faced worse luck than me. The fact that I can keep pushing forward will inspire others who are watching me. So, I will continue until I can no longer do so.”
Leonard chose not to comment on Paul George’s departure from the Clippers. He mentioned that he respects George’s decision but prefers to concentrate on Team USA and preparing for the Olympics.
