Despite missing all three of their point guards, Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever were able to snap a two-game skid, defeating Kamilla Cardoso and the Chicago Sky 92-70 on Saturday evening.

The Fever remained without Caitlin Clark for a 10th consecutive game as she is still dealing with a groin injury. However, Indiana’s most recent setback came in Thursday’s loss to the Phoenix Mercury, when Sydney Colson (torn ACL) and Aari McDonald (foot) saw their seasons come to an end.

And Mitchell recognizes the impact of not having Clark and the other point guards on the court.

Kelsey Mitchell Discusses The Fever’s Injuries

During the game, Mitchell and other Fever players playfully booed coach Stephanie White after she called a timeout with a big lead. The boos were meant as a lighthearted joke, picking fun at their coach.

Following the win, Mitchell joined CBS Sports, which broadcast the game, for a postgame interview. When asked about the booing, she said that being without the team’s three point guards is “big,” and added that laughing is essential amid the injury struggles.

“We got to laugh to keep from crying,” Mitchell said. “Losing Syd was big. Losing Aari McDonald was big. And not having CC is even bigger. Those three not being here, we gotta take every joy that we can and we’re going to enjoy it while we can enjoy it, but also respect the game.”

Mitchell Steals the Show Against Chicago

With Clark out, the Fever are missing one of the top playmakers in the league, averaging 8.8 assists per game. White elected to put Cunningham into the starting point guard slot, but it was Mitchell who led he team in passing.

Mitchell finished the night with 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting and 4-of-8 from distance. She also added a season-high eight assists and three rebounds. Cunningham recorded two assists in her first start at point guard.
