AUBURN, Ala. — The Kentucky women’s tennis team (14-13, 6-11 SEC) concluded its 2025 SEC Tournament run with a 4-0 loss to the No. 6/11 LSU Tigers on Thursday morning at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Alabama. The Wildcats now wait until April 28 to hear if they get a bid to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 40 team in the country.
Despite a strong start in doubles play, the Wildcats were unable to grab the tough point. The veteran duo of Lizzy Stevens and Ellie Eades delivered a statement win on court one, defeating the Tiger’s No. 3 ranked duo of Cadence Brace and Kayla Cross, 6-2. However, LSU responded quickly, taking the remaining two doubles courts to secure the 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
In singles, LSU’s depth provided them an immense advantage. On court three, Tilwith Di Girolami gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win over fifth-year senior Stevens. Shortly after, LSU’s No. 15 Cadence Brace topped No. 39 Zoe Hammond 6-3, 6-0 on court one, putting Kentucky in a 3-0 hole. The match was clinched on court six, where LSU’s Gaby Rivera secured the final point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kentucky sophomore Ellie Myers.
Several singles matches remained unfinished, including a tight battle on court five, where freshman Asuncion Jadue led in the second set after winning the first. Kentucky also saw competitive efforts from Tess Bucher and Julia Zhu, who were both locked in tough second sets before the match was called.
The loss brings Kentucky’s season to a close with a 14-13 overall record and a 5-11 mark in conference play. The Wildcats showed steady improvement and youthful promise throughout the season, making a strong campaign and hoping to hear their name called during the 2025 NCAA Tournament Selection Show on April 28 at 5 p.m.
