OXFORD, Miss. — The No. 56 Kentucky women’s tennis team dropped a tough 4-0 decision to No. 71 Ole Miss on Sunday at the Palmer Salloum Tennis Center, despite a competitive showing in singles play.
The Wildcats struggled to gain momentum in doubles, as Ole Miss claimed two of the three matches. Kentucky’s Lizzy Stevens and Ellie Eades earned a strong 6-2 win at ones doubles over No. 89 Ludmila Kareisova and Anaelle Leclercq, but the Rebels secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.
In singles action, Kentucky battled hard but could not manage to take a set in the decisive matches. Ole Miss’s Alice Soulie defeated Ellie Eades 6-2, 6-4 on court four, while Rachel Krzyzak outlasted Tess Bucher in a 7-6(3), 6-1 win at the five spot.
Kareisova closed out the match with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Lizzy Stevens at the second singles spot. Matches on one, three, and six were left unfinished, with Kentucky’s Zoe Hammond and No. 59 Julia Zhu both leading in their third sets.
Despite the loss, Kentucky showed resilience in a number of spots, especially with Hammond and Zhu continuing to fight in their singles matches. The Wildcats, now 6-5, will look to regroup and bounce back in their next match at home on Friday against No. 2 Georgia at 1 p.m.
