WICHITA, Ks. – Kentucky women’s tennis fell just short of Wichita State, losing 4-2 in a tough road battle that featured competitive matches in both doubles and singles. The team’s performance was marked by strong individual efforts, but ultimately, they couldn’t overcome the Shockers. This loss puts Kentucky at 5-2 on the year, as they look ahead to regroup and build on their progress in upcoming matches.
In a series of women’s doubles matches, Julia Zhu and Asuncion Jadue secured a dominant victory, defeating Sati Aubakirova and Anne Knuettel with a 6-0 score. Theodora Chantava and Kris Kudryavtseva triumphed over Zoe Hammond and Tess Bucher with a 6-2 result, leaving the doubles point in the hands of court one. Finally, Ellie Eades and Lizzy Stevens emerged victorious in their match against Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli, clinching the doubles point 6-4.
In singles action, No. 54 Julia Zhu defeated Theodora Chantava in a comeback win with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 score, securing a point for Kentucky. However, Wichita State claimed victories in the remaining matches. Xin Tong Wang, ranked #89, triumphed over Zoe Hammond 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, Giorgia Roselli defeated Lizzy Stevens 6-3, 6-4 and Tatyana Nikolenko bested Ellie Eades 6-1, 6-2. In the final singles match, Asuncion Jadue was defeated by Anne Knuettel 6-3, 7-6(2), securing the final point for Wichita State to bring them the 4-2 victory.
