Kia Nurse has agreed to sign a one-year deal to join the Chicago Sky, first reported by Alexa Philippou of ESPN. Nurse comes from the Los Angeles Sparks where she played for the organization for one year, averaging 7.6 PPG, 1.6 RBG, and 1.3 APG shooting 38.8 in field-goal percentage through 40 games. She hasn’t been committed to a team for more than one season since departing from the New York Liberty in 2020.
While Nurse logged her second-lowest PPG in 2024, she brings much-needed shooting and experience to the Chicago Sky to complement recently acquired Courtney Vandersloot, Rebecca Allen, and Michaela Onyenwere who re-signed. Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso will hold down the paint in their second years, supported by Elizabeth Williams, while Vandersloot and Allen will offer valuable leadership, next to Onyenwere and Nurse.
The Chicago Sky still have roster moves and decisions to make as we’re only 24 hours into free agency, but they’ve already increased their competitive status. Locking in one of Canada’s best WNBA products tells us this Sky team will be sinking perimeter shots, while their guards and bigs space the floor. With the combination of players general manager Jeff Pagliocca has secured for 2025, Tyler Marsh will have his hands full drawing up plays for his versatile roster. A new era of Sky basketball is in store effective immediately.
