Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were longtime teammates and won four championships at the Warriors together, but there’s certainly no love lost between the two.
Green is very much looking forward to playing Klay on the Mavs this season. When asked about the first matchup recently, Green said, “I’m running through his chest. …He’s my brother, but he’s not with us. He’s not with us – he’s with the ops.”
Thompson was asked about Draymond’s comments and had a hilarious response.
“Well, if so, I’ll take two free throws, and I’m a pretty tough guy so I think I can handle it,” Thompson said on Open Run.
Klay is well aware how weird it will be playing at Chase Center for the opposing team, but thinks he’ll be able to take it all in his stride.
“It’s probably going to be weird at first, but once the ball tips up and I start running around, it’s just going to be basketball again and luckily I’ve had great success shooting in that arena so hopefully that translates,” Thompson said. “It feels good to be going back with some reinforcements. Probably be a lot of emotions at first but then once the competitive juices start flowing I’ll be just trying to do everything to win.”
The Warriors and Mavericks first matchup for the 2024-25 season will be on November 12.
Unfortunately for Klay, he hasn’t had the best start shooting-wise in Dallas. He is 0-20 from the field in his first shots, but no doubt he will improve and become a great addition alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
