The New York Knicks hit a rough patch in late January, losing their fourth straight game in a 114-97 home defeat to the Dallas Mavericks. Fans at Madison Square Garden made their feelings clear by booing the team loudly throughout the night. That reaction drew honest responses from both coach Mike Brown and star guard Jalen Brunson.

New York came into the game with high expectations after a strong start to the season. Instead, the Knicks have dropped nine of their last 11 games and seen their once-solid record slide. Frustration among the fans boiled over when New York trailed by a large margin early and never recovered against Dallas.

Brunson Admits Fans Have Reason to Boo

Brunson didn’t shy away from the crowd’s reaction after the game. The Knicks All-Star put it plainly when asked about the boos. “I’d be booing us too. Straight up,” he told reporters, acknowledging that fans are justified in their disappointment.

Brunson finished with 22 points and six assists, but struggled with efficiency on 9-of-22 shooting. His performance underscored broader offensive issues that have plagued New York during the skid. Even when key players return from injury, the team hasn’t put together complete efforts from start to finish.

Mike Brown Shares Fans’ Perspective

Coach Mike Brown echoed Brunson’s understanding of the fan reaction. “If we’re playing crappy, boo. If I was in the stands, I’d boo too,” Brown said. He stressed that fans pay to see quality basketball and know what good play looks like.

Brown also noted that Knicks fans are passionate and know their team’s potential. He did not hide from the criticism, making it clear that he expects his squad to respond and improve.

Knicks Still Hold Third in the East

Despite the slump, New York remains third in the Eastern Conference with a 25-18 record. They are only a few games behind the league’s best, but recent results have tightened the playoff chase. The crowd’s reaction reflects not just frustration but belief that this team can achieve more.

What Comes Next for New York

The Knicks now face important decisions about adjustments. Consistency on defense and better shot selection will be key if they want to regain momentum. Brunson and Brown agree that effort has to rise, and soon. Fans have spoken loudly — and New York must answer both on the court and in the standings.
