Contrary to reports, the Los Angeles Lakers did not offer a non-guaranteed training camp invitation to Cedi Osman before he signed a one-year deal with Panathinaikos in Greece. LeBron James has a known admiration for Osman, dating back to their time together with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Lakers currently have 15 guaranteed contracts and are just under $50,000 away from reaching the second apron luxury tax threshold. This could complicate the possibility of retaining Osman even if he performs well.
Osman is hopeful that a successful season in Greece will pave the way for a return to the NBA in 2025. Last season, Osman played for the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 6.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 17.6 minutes over 72 games. His representation includes Jordan Gertler, Jeff Schwartz, and Misko Raznatovic.
