Sydney Colson, coming off the bench for the Aces, has been chosen as the first signature shoe athlete by shoe brand Creative Control. The company values Colson’s authenticity, humor, and community connection over just her stats on the court. According to Jack Williams of the LAS VEGAS SUN, Colson, who played only four minutes in Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals, is known for her funny, goofy, and supportive personality, which is reflected in the design of her signature shoe. The shoe features a black mesh fabric with a mural design of peace signs, smiley faces, and hearts that represent Colson’s character. The logo, featuring her nickname ‘Syd,’ forms a smiley face. The shoe design is more focused on functionality rather than just style. Colson’s personality plays a significant role in her reputation in the WNBA, and she even has a television show called the “Syd and TP Show,” where she and former WNBA player Theresa Plaisance aim to become the faces of the league. Colson mentioned that there will be more color variations of her shoe, including an Aces-themed one, a design inspired by her hometown of Houston, and one based on her favorite animated show, ‘The Boondocks’ (LAS VEGAS SUN, 10/1).
