ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reports that when LeBron James is ready to retire from basketball, it is expected to be announced before he plays his final NBA games. In recent years, players like Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki announced their retirement plans well in advance, while Tim Duncan waited until after his final season to make his announcement.
“LeBron signed a summer extension with only one guaranteed year, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the clock is ticking down on his career with the Lakers,” said McMenamin. “He will retire on his own timeline.”
“When LeBron’s final march, possibly his Last Dance, comes, we will all be aware. It will be a must-see TV event, with LeBron touring all 28 NBA cities in a spectacular farewell,” he added.
“He won’t just announce at the end of a season that it was his last. He will want to make a grand exit from the NBA,” McMenamin concluded.
