Both Luka Doncic and LeBron James recently voiced confidence in the current roster while acknowledging improvements must be made as the season progresses.
Despite strong individual performances from the superstar duo, Los Angeles struggled to overcome inconsistent scoring from its supporting cast against the Knicks a theme that has surfaced multiple times this season.
Doncic made it clear he believes in the group currently assembled in Los Angeles.
“I think we’re in a good spot,” Doncic said via Spectrum SportsNet. “Obviously have some work to do. Today, we missed a lot of good looks. But I think we have a great group.”
James echoed a similar perspective, emphasizing the importance of continued development while also highlighting the challenges the team has faced with injuries throughout the season.
“I like this group. But we gotta continue to get better. And that’s good,” James said via Spectrum SportsNet. “We should want to get better, it’s only Feb. 1. But we’re gonna continue to get better and better, what is it, 48 games now? It’s a tough Western Conference, it’s a tough league and like I said, it’s been tough all season dealing with injuries and guys in and guys out. Unfortunately, our All-Star two-guard has been out for a minute, that’s a big piece for our team. So it’s just kind of hard to see what we really truly can be.”
Austin Reaves’ absence has created a noticeable void within the Lakers’ offensive rhythm, with the guard remaining one of the team’s most important secondary playmakers. Even with injuries to key contributors, Los Angeles has managed to remain competitive in a tightly contested conference standings race.
With the NBA trade deadline approaching, speculation continues to surround potential roster adjustments that could strengthen the Lakers’ depth.
