James dropped some honest reflections on fatherhood, coaching and the rise of his sons in the basketball world, on the latest episode of Mind the Game.Ā
It came just weeks after the Lakersā disappointing first-round exit from the playoffs, and it was maybe the most grounded weāve heard him be in a while.
āIāve never gotten involved with my kidsā coaches,ā LeBron said. āFrom Bronny growing up to where he is now, and Bryce on his way to Tucson, Arizona⦠Iāve never went to a practice and sat there through the whole thing to see how my son was being used.ā
That hands-off approach isnāt just strategy, itās about character.
āCoach my son however you want. Hold him more accountable than the rest,ā he continued. āSay what the fā you need to say. If you baby your kid, youāre not helping them.ā
James added, āIf a coach yells at your kid and youāre the first one to step ināgo coach him yourself,ā he said. āItās not about how itās said, itās about the message.ā
And heās got a point. Bronnyās already made history, becoming the first player to share the floor with his dad in an NBA game.
Though his rookie year had growing pains, 2.3 points per game on limited minutes, he flashed glimpses, especially in the G League, where he averaged nearly 22 points and is reportedly going to play 10-15 minutes per night this season.
Meanwhile, Bryce is gearing up for Arizona under coach Tommy Lloyd. At 6ā6ā, heās got the frame and the confidence.
You can love LeBron or roll your eyes at his every move, but youāve got to respect how heās letting his sons earn it themselves.
