CLEVELAND, Tenn. – In its continued investment in student-athletes, the Lee University athletic department has completed new locker room space for three sports at the PIE Center in Cleveland. It will be named the Lee Athletic Fieldhouse at the PIE Center.
Men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and women’s lacrosse all have new space at the fieldhouse. The new facility is just across the street from their competition field at the Ray Conn Sports Complex. The 2300-square foot fieldhouse has modern locker rooms and team meeting spaces. It will benefit team building, student-athlete development, and future recruiting. Work began on the space over the summer. It was completed in the fall semester, and all three teams have moved to the new space.
“We are beyond excited to announce the official opening of the Lee Athletics Fieldhouse at the PIE Center, said Athletic Director John Maupin. “This space offers modern locker rooms for men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and women’s lacrosse. This space also adds a conference room for team meetings and other athletic department needs. Over the past several years as these three programs began to make the field at the Ray Conn Sports Complex their permanent home, we were looking for options to create convenient and upgraded locker room spaces to best serve our student-athletes. A year ago, we recognized the potential to partner with the PIE Center on this need, as they could offer the space we needed, directly across from the Ray Conn Sports Complex.”
The PIE (Partnerships in Industry and Education) Innovation Center is a workforce development center that allows juniors and seniors to receive training in a variety of career fields. The center collaborates with local businesses, industries, and community partners to provide learning opportunities for both college- and career-bound students through a combination of STEM classroom instruction, skill development, and on-the-job training.
Brittany Cannon, Director of PIE , noted, “Lee University has been a valued partner of Bradley County Schools for many years, and their presence at the PIE Center represents the next chapter in that collaboration. The addition of their locker room space not only supports student-athletes but also deepens the connection between education and higher learning right here in our community. We’re grateful for Lee’s continued partnership.”
“It gives Lee University a presence in an energetic space that is serving high school students in our area well,” said Maupin. “I believe it opens the door to provide opportunities to connect some of these students with career preparation in the field of college athletics.” “This space also represents our focus on providing an elite athletic experience for all of our student-athletes at Lee University. These spaces were designed intentionally to elevate the student-athlete experience and give them a home that reflects their hard work and championship standard. We are grateful for the partnerships and vision that brought this project to life and look forward to the energy and preparation these new locker rooms will inspire for years to come.”
