It has been claimed that Lewis Hamilton was “scared” by his difficulties in qualifying.
Throughout most of the season, Hamilton has been outperformed by Mercedes teammate George Russell on Saturdays.
However, in Singapore, Hamilton managed to out-qualify Russell for the fifth time this year and secured the third spot on the starting grid.
During the F1 Nation podcast, Tom Clarkson mentioned Hamilton’s struggles in qualifying with the current generation of cars.
Following the qualifying session, Lawrence Barretto spoke to Hamilton and noted that he seemed to be more open and gave longer answers than usual.
Hamilton was tough on himself regarding his qualifying performance and seemed puzzled by his struggles, which worried him a bit.
Despite his concerns, Hamilton felt connected with the car and was looking forward to the race, believing he could fight for a good position.
Unfortunately, Hamilton’s race in Singapore did not go as planned due to a decision to start with soft tyres while his rivals opted for mediums. Mercedes admitted that this decision was a mistake.
Although Hamilton was confident in his ability to make the most of his starting position, he ultimately finished sixth, with Russell coming in fourth.
