New York Liberty star guard Sabrina Ionescu has been announced as a wild-card roster entry for the inaugural season of the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league. She will be playing for Phantom BC alongside Satou Sabally, Marina Mabrey, Natasha Cloud, Brittney Griner, and Katie Lou Samuelson.
Ionescu is the final player to be added to the league, which will kick off on January 17 in the Miami area and conclude in March. Unrivaled boasts the highest average pay in women’s sports and has divided the women into six teams of six players.
Although the league did not disclose Ionescu’s earnings, ESPN reported that she has entered into an “unprecedented and historic” agreement that sets her apart. Additionally, players will receive a stake in the league’s equity.
After winning the 2024 WNBA title with the Liberty and securing a gold medal at the Olympics in Paris, 27-year-old Ionescu underwent surgery for a thumb injury sustained during Game 4 of the WNBA Finals. In the last season with the Liberty, she averaged 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists, following her selection as the top overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft.
