London Mavericks Unveil Roster for the NXT Gen League
London Mavericks fans can now welcome an exciting additional roster of players who will represent the club in the newly branded NXT Gen League.
Formerly known as the U23 feeder league, the NXT Gen League provides a crucial platform for emerging talent to hone their skills and offers a clear pathway to the NSL.
Head Coach Mel Mansfield, alongside Tamsin Greenway as Assistant Coach and Mikki Austin as Technical Coach, will lead this dynamic squad. The London Mavericks’ NXT Gen team features a strong mix of experienced, future, and emerging talent, with players coming through the Mavericks pathway as well as recruits from across the UK. Azara Wilmot and Tabi Grimes were standout members of the U19 Mavericks team, which finished 2nd in the NPL league last season.
London Mavericks have secured some exceptional new talent for the squad, including Cerys Finn and Cerys Cairns, both Scotland internationals who were with the Strathclyde Sirens last season. Leah Goss and Anya Wood from Surrey Storm, and Jade Popoola from Loughborough Lightning. George Fisher returns to Mavericks after her stint in the ANZ Premiership in New Zealand. Currently on her journey back to fitness following a knee injury, London Mavericks are excited to support George’s homecoming to the club where she began her career.
Sascha Dale and Neve Wright, both part of the Roses Academy, as well as Beth Long, who recently helped Scotland U21 qualify for the World Youth Cup, will be joining the team. Nine of the players are currently studying at the University of Hertfordshire and are part of its netball performance programme, which continues to play an essential role in Mavericks’ player development strategy.
London Mavericks will soon announce their official Training Partners, drawn from this exceptional group of athletes, to further strengthen the NSL team’s preparations for the season ahead.
Commenting on the squad, Tamsin Greenway said:
“This is such an important competition for the continued development of our sport as we head into the professional era. To give these players a real platform to train, play, and perform, as well as a genuine opportunity to step into an NSL squad, is crucial. We’ve pulled together a strong mix of talent across the court, and I’m excited to work with them this season. Being back with Mel and having Mikki on board is a huge win for the club, both technically and culturally. We can’t wait to get started.”
The NXT Gen League kicks off in February, with London Mavericks opening their season in round two against Manchester Thunder. Fans can look forward to double headers, with several NXT Gen fixtures aligned to NSL match days. Don’t miss the chance to witness the future stars of netball.
